Tonight is the second high school football game of the season at Capitol Hill. Last week the Rufnex lost to Wayne 35-14 in the season's home opener. There were many bright spots in the game but the Rufnex fell short after turning the ball over 5 times. Coach Harper was impressed with the way the Rufnex faced adversity. Trailing 21-6 at halftime the Rufnex came out and had a strong third quarter offensively and defensively shutting out the Bulldogs in third. Down 21-14 the Rufnex had a chance to tie the game with the ball on the 5 yard line but caught the turnover bug once again. Rufnex players of the game offensively was Senior RB Dmonie Holt who rushed for 185 yards on 17 carries with 2 tds. Senior Tre Martinez was the bright spot for the Rufnex defense. Coach Harper said he was "pleased with how hard we fought and having no penalties on defense. We must improve our focus to become the team he believes we will become!" As for this week versus Capitol Hill, Coach Harper expects a load of intensity as these crosstown rivals face off. His expectation for our football program is to eliminate/reduce the mistakes and play with great attitude, effort and intensity throughout both halves of the game and bring home our first victory of the 2024 season!
Senior running back Dmonie Hill rushed for 185 yards and 2 tds.
CHEER

SOFTBALL
-
The Rufnex Softball Team has been very competitive over the last few weeks. The girls opened district play on Monday with the Jones Longhorns. The Lady Rufnex lost the game 12-2. After being shutout last year by Jones Coach Lozano knew this was going to be a tough game. The Lady Rufnex scored two runs on the Longhorns due to Coach Lozano's aggressive base running. The Lady Rufnex went 1-1 versus Meeker. The girls defense shined as they had 2 double plays and one triple play. Coach Lozano's softball program continues to draw attention from our female athletes. Two more ladies joined the team this week. Today the ladies travel to Calumet.
